73 Degrees in March

The temperature reached 73 degrees, a record high for March 31, according to Dave Pearson with the National Weather Service in Negaunee. The previous record was 65 degrees and the average is 38, Pearson said. The record-high temperature capped off an above-average warm and dry March. The average temperature in Houghton in March was 35.5 degrees, nearly 10 degrees more than the average of 25.7 degrees, Pearson said, adding that just one inch of snow was recorded in Houghton, and one-tenth of an inch in Calumet.
